Following a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, Iran has emphasized the deep-rooted and historic nature of its relationship with India. The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, underscored the significant value Tehran places on its ties with New Delhi, particularly highlighting collaboration in trade and economic sectors.
A key topic of discussion between the two leaders was the Chabahar Port, which continues to be a focal point of cooperation between the two nations. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio remarked on the autonomy of countries in conducting their foreign policies. However, he cautioned against aiding Iran in circumventing U.S. sanctions, a point of concern for Washington.
