Google has launched its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features for Android users in India, bringing enhanced AI capabilities directly to their Chrome browser. This expansion introduces AI-powered tools that allow users to summarize webpages, connect information across various Google services, and complete a range of web-based tasks.
Gemini in Chrome functions as an AI assistant within the browser, offering Android users features such as webpage summaries and integration with services like Gmail and Calendar. Additionally, users can utilize image generation capabilities. A new auto-browse feature is also being rolled out for desktop and Android devices, but it is exclusive to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India.
The auto-browse feature is designed to simplify complex, multi-step web tasks by allowing Gemini to navigate websites and perform certain actions on behalf of users. This includes tasks like comparing products, finding deals, booking tickets, making reservations, and scheduling appointments, which would typically require users to manually navigate multiple webpages and perform several actions.
In light of these capabilities, Google has implemented safety measures to mitigate potential risks associated with AI browsing. Gemini is equipped to detect threats such as prompt-injection attempts, and users may need to confirm sensitive actions before the AI proceeds. These safeguards are crucial as the AI system has the potential to make changes, submit forms, or carry out transactions autonomously.
The number of multi-step tasks that can be performed using the auto-browse feature is contingent on the user’s Google AI subscription. Google AI Pro subscribers have a limit of 20 multi-step requests per day, while Google AI Ultra subscribers can make up to 200 requests daily.
This development represents a significant step in integrating more advanced AI functionalities into Chrome, enabling users to move beyond simple AI queries and leverage the technology to perform comprehensive online tasks.
