Starting October 1, Maharashtra has mandated Aadhaar authentication for the registration of immovable property documents, a move aimed at curbing fraud and enhancing identity verification. This requirement affects 63 types of registrations, including property sale, purchase, mortgage, and partition deeds, according to Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
The decision is designed to mitigate issues like impersonation, fake documentation, and excessive human intervention in the registration process. Individuals without an Aadhaar number must provide proof of having applied for one, along with other government-issued identity documents, which will be verified before completing the transaction.
Special provisions have been set for minors and certain eligible categories, ensuring that children without an Aadhaar number are not denied property registration benefits solely on that basis. The government emphasizes that this system aims to make property registration more secure, transparent, and efficient.
