India clinched the Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal with a thrilling 19-run victory over Pakistan at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. This win marks India’s successful defense of their cricket title at the Games.

Electing to bat first, India set a formidable target by posting 211/6. The innings was fueled by a rapid half-century from Abhishek Sharma, who powered India to 81/2 during the Powerplay—their highest against Pakistan in T20Is. Despite a mid-innings slowdown due to effective bowling by Pakistan’s Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abrar Ahmed, India regained momentum with a late surge. Tilak Varma played a critical role, contributing an unbeaten 51 off 22 balls. His partnership with Shivam Dube, who added 27 runs, pushed India past the 200-run mark.

In response, Pakistan mounted a strong chase with Hasan Nawaz leading the effort. Nawaz delivered an impressive 96 not out from 51 balls, including an 87-run partnership with Saim Ayub, creating pressure on the Indian side. However, India’s bowlers managed to regain control at crucial moments. Washington Sundar’s impressive 18th over and Jasprit Bumrah’s tight penultimate over curtailed Pakistan’s momentum.

Heading into the final over, Pakistan needed 33 runs to secure victory. Shivam Dube effectively handled the pressure, defending the target and ensuring India’s 19-run triumph. This victory not only underscored India’s dominance over Pakistan in T20 internationals but also secured another Asian Games gold medal for the Indian men’s cricket team.
