India and Poland have committed to enhancing their collaboration in key sectors such as defence, space, nuclear energy, and advanced technologies. This agreement was reached during discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, with a focus on broadening economic ties and aiming to double bilateral trade by 2030.

The two leaders emphasized the potential for joint development and production in strategic areas, particularly defence equipment, space technology, and nuclear energy. The discussions also covered cooperation in critical minerals, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and fintech. Modi extended an invitation to Polish companies to partner with India in co-development and co-production endeavors, while Tusk highlighted the importance of diversifying access to critical minerals and strategic resources to bolster economic security.

With current bilateral trade valued at approximately $6.3 billion, both countries are striving to elevate this figure significantly by 2030. A delegation consisting of nearly 100 Polish companies is actively exploring opportunities in sectors such as defence, agricultural technology, pharmaceuticals, food processing, mining, infrastructure, and technology.

Plans to establish a bilateral startup bridge and develop partnerships in critical minerals and coal gasification were also discussed. Indian officials anticipate that the proposed India-European Union trade agreement will open up additional avenues for exports and investment. Defence cooperation remains a priority, with efforts underway to finalize an agreement on the protection and exchange of classified information, thereby fostering closer defence-industrial collaboration. The countries have also agreed to initiate a defence industry dialogue and a counterterrorism dialogue.

The potential for joint manufacturing of military equipment, drones, and satellite technologies is being explored, with the broader strategic partnership between India and the European Union expected to provide a supportive framework. Regional and international issues, such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict and developments in West Asia, featured prominently in the talks. Modi reiterated India’s backing for diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace, while Polish officials welcomed New Delhi’s advocacy for a negotiated resolution to the Ukraine conflict.

The meeting underscored longstanding people-to-people connections, including Poland’s assistance to Indian students evacuated from Ukraine in 2022 and the historical support provided to Polish refugees in India during World War II. As both nations seek to enhance trade, strategic cooperation, and more resilient supply chains, this meeting represents a significant step forward in strengthening India-Poland relations.
