Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the “Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029” roadmap on Sunday, aiming to eliminate the transit of narcotics across India’s borders by the year 2029. This comprehensive plan concentrates on three key areas: diminishing drug supply, curbing demand, and reducing harm. Since 2019, the government has been executing a nationwide campaign to dismantle drug networks, Shah emphasized.
Integral to these efforts are several initiatives, including the establishment of the four-tier NCORD mechanism, the formation of Anti-Narcotics Task Forces in every state and Union Territory, and the launch of a national rehabilitation helpline. Additionally, the NIDAN database has been created to track narcotics offenders, and data-driven methods are being employed to map drug networks and identify hotspots.
Shah shared that enforcement agencies have seized over 29,968 kilograms of synthetic drugs, valued at more than ₹19,600 crore, between the years 2020 and July 2026. Overall, from 2019 to July 2026, the total quantity of narcotic and psychotropic substances seized surpassed 93.34 lakh kilograms.
Furthermore, authorities have confiscated properties worth ₹1,841 crore across 3,016 cases from 2024 to June 2026, targeting both the drugs themselves and the financial infrastructures that support them. This represents a significant stride in undermining the economic foundations of drug networks.
During his official visit to Goa, Shah took the opportunity to assess the state’s security readiness. However, he abbreviated his stay to return to Delhi, ensuring continuous oversight of the national anti-drug strategy and related initiatives.
