The Delhi government is set to launch a comprehensive welfare and infrastructure initiative, Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan, beginning on September 17, as announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. This month-long campaign aims to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service. It will involve the initiation and foundation-laying of various projects totaling approximately ₹13,800 crore across the city.
Central to the campaign are numerous community-oriented activities, including blood donation drives, health checkups for the elderly, sanitation efforts, and initiatives to clean the Yamuna river. Additionally, the campaign will facilitate registration for government welfare schemes in all 70 assembly constituencies, ensuring widespread community participation and benefit.
The launch day will feature a significant blood donation camp with an ambitious goal of collecting 2,500 units. To further extend the health focus, the government will promote organ donation and conduct health camps tailored for senior citizens. Notably, about ₹8,000 crore of the proposed projects will target improvements and developments related to the Yamuna. As part of the initiative, over 4,000 Anganwadi and ASHA workers will be recognized for their contributions.
The campaign also aims to engage the younger population, with plans to involve students and youth from around 5,000 schools in various activities such as painting and speech competitions. An innovation challenge will be held, encouraging ideas that contribute to the vision of a developed India.
In terms of infrastructure development, the projects planned under this campaign include significant investments: ₹8,000 crore for Delhi Jal Board works, ₹2,800 crore for Public Works Department (PWD) projects, ₹1,500 crore for initiatives in the power sector, ₹365 crore for irrigation and flood control, and ₹77 crore for tourism enhancements. This wide-ranging approach underscores the Delhi government’s commitment to fostering growth and welfare across multiple sectors.
