The Shiv Sena (UBT) is grappling with a significant internal challenge as two of its Lok Sabha members, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar and Omprakash Raje Nimbalkar, have joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction. Nagesh Patil Ashtikar explained that his decision stemmed from frustration over insufficient development funding for his constituency and negative remarks directed at rebel MPs. He emphasized that his allegiance to Shiv Sena’s ideology remains intact, asserting that his switch was merely a transition from one faction to another to better serve his constituents. Similarly, Omprakash Raje Nimbalkar confirmed his defection but noted that he would continue to seek advice from his supporters before finalizing his political strategy. Despite the ongoing conflict, he pledged not to criticize Uddhav Thackeray or Aaditya Thackeray.
In response to this upheaval, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut stated that some rebel MPs are still in contact with the party and are apprehensive about potential backlash from their constituencies. Raut conveyed that the party is open to discussions with those considering a return. Meanwhile, the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction is taking disciplinary measures against the defectors, issuing new show-cause notices and warning of possible actions under the anti-defection law. The party is also contemplating approaching the Lok Sabha Speaker to seek the disqualification of the MPs if they fail to provide satisfactory explanations.
